John Muir Lodge

The pinnacle of Kings Canyon lodging

Temporary Seasonal Closure

John Muir Lodge is temporarily closed.
Re-opening March 22, 2025.

John Muir Lodge offers a serene and cozy retreat for Kings Canyon National Park visitors. Built in 1998, it boasts rustic charm with open-beam ceilings, a stone fireplace, and a historic redwood mantel from Sequoia National Park. Unwind in the lobby great room, complete with games, puzzles, and books, or bask in the Sierra sunset from one of our public balconies.

Named after John Muir, the lodge honors the famous conservationist’s legacy with a lobby painting overlooking the wilderness he cherished.

Guest rooms feature handcrafted wood furniture and a welcoming ambiance, often accompanied by a crackling fire in the evening. Porches outside invite guests to relax in the fresh mountain air. A short distance away, Grant Grove Restaurant offers family-friendly American cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Dog-friendly accommodations are available with a $25 per night pet fee. We also now have wifi available to all of our guests. With 36 rooms, John Muir Lodge services seasonal park-goers, continuing Muir’s mission of preserving the High Sierra’s natural beauty.

  • The lodge has a beautiful lobby area with games to play, tables, and couches to relax on. Almost a boutique feel for a lodge. The food at the restaurant down the hill was tasty and the staff was great. (We had just come from Yosemite and the food here was way better here.)

  • Exactly what it says on the tin – a perfectly lovely room in an incredibly beautiful space, full of nature and trees and birds. A+, everyone should do it at least once.”
