Moro Rock Sequoia National Park

Moro Rock

Moro Rock is a large granite dome also found in the Giant Forest area. Common in the Sierra Nevada, the dome was formed by exfoliation, or the casting off in sheets of rock layers on otherwise disjointed granite. Outward expansion of the granite results in exfoliation. Taking a quarter-mile trail to this national park’s Moro Rock site, you can climb nearly 400 stone steps to the top of the barren rock (6,725-foot elevation). The Sequoia National Park Moro Rock parking area is 3 miles south of the General Sherman Tree at General's Highway. RVs and trailers are prohibited on this road.

New for the 2011 summer season, to help cut down on traffic congestion, the road to Moro Rock and Crescent Meadow will be closed to personal vehicles on weekends and holidays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  Visitors can use the free in-park Giant Forest Shuttle to reach the area during those times.  The shuttle runs through Labor Day weekend.

Testimonials

“My Mother and I stayed two nights at the Wuksachi Lodge in the Silliman building recently.  The views and surrounding environment were spectacular.  The cuisine at the Lodge was wonderfully tasty and well prepared.  Lola, our server both days, was very friendly and a great server.  The room was nice and our view of the forest was second to none.  We really enjoyed our stay.  Would recommend it to anyone.”
