Learn About Giant Sequoia Trees

Learn About Trees | Sequoia National Park

When you visit Sequoia National Park, you'll see some of the biggest and oldest trees on earth. The General Sherman Tree - a giant sequoia tree – is considered the largest living thing on earth. It’s somewhere between 2,000 and 2,300 years old. When you're here, you can also visit Tunnel Log - a fallen giant sequoia that you can actually drive a car through.

The giant sequoia trees have been able to last this long because they are pretty thick skinned. Their bark is up to two feet thick - which helps protect the tree from fire and bugs. In addition to these giant trees, Sequoia National Park is home to more than 40 different tree species.

Testimonials

“My Mother and I stayed two nights at the Wuksachi Lodge in the Silliman building recently.  The views and surrounding environment were spectacular.  The cuisine at the Lodge was wonderfully tasty and well prepared.  Lola, our server both days, was very friendly and a great server.  The room was nice and our view of the forest was second to none.  We really enjoyed our stay.  Would recommend it to anyone.”
