Enjoy the latest craze in National Parks. Play the original Nature Points game. You and your party will be provided with a GPS unit, a digital camera, a field guide, and a score card. Children will each recieve a prize for participation, and adults may even make the Sequoia Nature Points Leaderboard.
Rules
Each player/team will keep a Nature Points Log and/or photo-journal. In individual competition the first person who correctly identifies a targeted feature or species, gets the points allotted for that feature/species and may note both the feature/species and the point total in the Nature Point Log.
At the start of the game each player/team will be given a list of specific GPS coordinates with known Nature Points features. The Nature point log will require identification of those features. Along the way participants can collect points by identifying other items on the Nature Points log sheet. The use of botanical, floral, zoological, geological or any other reference material is not only encouraged, it makes for a much more accurate accounting of the Nature Points.
All players must stick to designated trails, roads, or parking areas. Any player/team leaving the trail is immediately disqualified.
Wildlife is wild! Stay a safe distance from all wildlife. Do Not approach or attempt to feed any wildlife.
For families with notoriously competitive members, it is highly recommended that the person who displays the most mature personality in the family opt out of the game and act as the Nature Point Referee.
Additional Nature Points may be awarded for the collection and proper disposal of litter. See Litter Points section of the Nature Points field guide. All litter collections should be verified by a Nature Points Referee. Litter generated by a player or collected from inside a proper bear-proof trash can does not count.
Additional Nature Points may also be awarded for specific ecologically sensitive and beneficial behaviors exhibited by Nature Points contestants and verified by a Nature Points Referee. Consult the Greenpath Points section of the Nature Points field guide.
Upon completion of the Nature Points Game each player/team will tally their point total and argue with their siblings and friends to make sure nobody is cheating. The winner will then be declared and may taunt their opponents incessantly until the next Nature Point competition ends. The winner will also be presented with an award to proudly display their scientific superiority over the friends and family.
For entry into the Nature Points Hall of Fame, a photo-catalogue/GPS co-ordinate listing documenting the collective player/groups points will be presented to a DNC contest representative for verification. Upon verification of a high score, the contestants name(s) will be recorded upon the official Nature Points Leader board at Wuksachi Lodge.
