From campfire programs in summer to guided snowshoe hikes in the winter, there is always something interesting and fun to do in Sequoia. There are plenty more activities available, and best of all, these ranger programs are all FREE!
Sequoia Park rangers run a variety of programs designed to educate and entertain park visitors. Whether it’s a ranger-led hike, or an evening campfire under the stars, there’s something special about having a national park ranger on hand. Program topics range from stories and fascinating facts about sequoia trees, bears and other wild animals, to local geology and astronomy. And as an added bonus, Sequoia ranger programs are all free of charge.
Programs rotate with the season and park region. The widest variety and number of ranger-led programs happen in the summer, from late June through August. View the most current schedule of events below, and when you arrive, check visitor centers and bulletin boards in each area for details on upcoming Sequoia ranger programs, as well as schedule changes.

Advice From a Sequoia Talk*
Meet at Giant Forest Museum. Learn about the largest trees on the planet and their secrets for survival.. 20 minutes.
Critter Talk*
Discover more about the animals that call Sequoia National Park home. Meet at the Lodgepole Visitor Center. 30 minutes.
Earth Day: Life in Bloom
Join us for a walk into the world of foothill wildflowers! Surviving in the wild long enough to bloom can be a difficult task. Learn their tricks for survival. 1 hour. For the Saturday Earth Day program, meet near the flagpole at the Foothills Visitor Center. For the program on Sunday, meet at the dirt road next to Powisha Campground site #14.
Film Night: America's Best Idea
Join us for a one hour excerpt of National Parks: American's Best Idea, one of the most inspiring documentaries ever made. Meet at the Ash Mountain Rec Hall on Sycamore Drive for this 1 hour event. Admission to the parks is free during National Parks Week, April 22-27. Call the Foothills Visitor Center for more information: (559)565-4212.
Lodgepole Matinee:
1 hour. Meet at the Lodgepole Visitor Center. Enjoy a mid-afternoon offering of our traditional evening program.
Lodgepole Campfire:
1 hour. Meet at the Lodgepole Campground Amphitheater near Loop B.

Saturday: National Parks: Mission vs. Reality
Sunday: Into the Wild: Journey of American Wilderness
Moro Vista Talk
20 minutes. Meet the ranger on top of Moro Rock. 1/3-mile climb up a stone staircase. Enjoy sweeping vistas and learn about your National Park!
Realms of Giants Walk
2 hours; 2 miles. Meet at the base of the General Sherman Tree. Deepen your understanding and appreciation of the world's largest trees.
Scat & Tracks Talk*
Investigate the clues just like a crime scene investigator would and discover what animals you may find in the forest. Meet at the Lodgepole Visitor Center. 30 minutes.
Sequoia Walk
Deepen your understanding and appreciation of the world's largest trees. Meet at the base of the General Sherman Tree. 2 hours; 2 miles.
Sherman Tree Talk*
Learn about the largest tree on the planet and its secrets for survival. Meet at the base of the General Sherman Tree. 20 minutes.
Volunteer in the Native Plant Garden
Help us keep the Foothills Visitor Center garden looking beautiful, while learning about California Native plants. Snacks and drinks included! 1 hour and 45 minutes. Meet at the Foothills Visitor Center dressed to garden.
