10th Annual Celebrate Sequoias Festival

10th Annual Celebrate Sequoias Festival

The public is invited to attend the tenth annual Celebrate Sequoia Festival on Saturday, September 6, from 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  This free event is hosted cooperatively each year by the National Park Service and USDA Forest Service, and celebrates these giant trees through the eyes of naturalists, scienteists, and artists.

The Festival will include vendors, information booths, and opportunities to participate in guided walks through the lesser-known giant sequoia groves of Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, and Giant Sequoia National Monument in Sequoia National Forest.

This all day event is located at Princess Campground, along Highway 180 near the cutoff to Hume Lake, in Giant Sequoia National Monument (a one hour drive east of Fresno).

The groves you visit include Converse and Indian Basin, Grant, Big Stump, Bearskin, and Redwood Mountain Groves.  Walks will vary in length and difficulty.  The first of the walks will begin at 10:00 a.m., and others will leave approximately every half hour until 2:00 p.m.

Vendors and informational booths will be open from 9:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Several artists including wood workers, nature photographers, and painters will have items for sale and occasional demonstrations.  The Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks Fire Trailer will have fun activities for everyone to participate in throughout the day.  Food will also be available for purchase and children will have a free activity booth available throughout the day.

This special event is free; though the entrance fee will be charged at park entrance stations.  For additional information call the Kings Canyon Visitor Center at (559) 565-4307 or the Hume Lake Ranger Station at (559) 338-2251.

Testimonials

“My Mother and I stayed two nights at the Wuksachi Lodge in the Silliman building recently.  The views and surrounding environment were spectacular.  The cuisine at the Lodge was wonderfully tasty and well prepared.  Lola, our server both days, was very friendly and a great server.  The room was nice and our view of the forest was second to none.  We really enjoyed our stay.  Would recommend it to anyone.”
