Learn About Trees | Sequoia National Park

When you visit Sequoia National Park, you'll see some of the biggest and oldest trees on earth.  The General Sherman Tree - a giant sequoia tree – is considered the largest living thing on earth.  It’s somewhere between 2,000 and 2,300 years old.  When you're here, you can also visit Tunnel Log - a fallen sequoia tree that you can actually drive a car through.

The sequoia trees have been able to last this long because they are pretty thick skinned.  Their bark is up to two feet thick - which helps protect the tree from fire and bugs.  In addition to the giant sequoias, Sequoia National Park is home to more than 40 different tree species.

Testimonials

“We love coming to Sequoia National Park in the winter.  The room rates, gorgeous location, and the fact that it is not crowded are what attract us.  We travel from San Clemente, and pass other mountain resorts along the way, but go the extra distance to enjoy the National Park.  I recommend the Wuksachi Lodge to everyone!”
